The challenges in Electronic Components development and manufacturing are driven by miniaturisation, increasing functionality and reducing power consumption, accompanied by strong price pressure.

However, the Components business is not only to meet these technical challenges. The leading manufacturers of Electronic Components and Sub-assemblies organised in the Electronic Components Division within the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI), taking over full responsibility for the environmental aspects of their products.

There has been a dramatic increase in the number and complexity of inquiries concerning substances and materials used in Components and Sub-assemblies. The Electronic Components Division within ZVEI offers so called Umbrella Specifications as a tool for efficiently processing the customer inquiries.

The method is based on an intelligent grouping of all products in similar packages under one "umbrella". This method meets all customer requirement and legal regulations, and is supported by most renowned manufacturers of Electronic Components and by the ZVEI, the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association as strong partner of the industry in Europe.
