EU Framework for Certification and Labelling - Limits and Possibilities for IoT Security

The EU Commission wants to establish a voluntary "Framework for Certification and Labelling". Cybersecurity ought to be made more transparent and comparable for consumers. The ZVEI supports the goal of strengthening cybersecurity in the area of networked consumer and industrial goods.

The proposal aims, however, with certifications at the wrong end. Rather, international security standards as well as "security by design" concepts are to be encouraged. The position paper outlines four proposals for basic cybersecurity requirement for connected devices as well as a technical definition for the Internet of Things.
