Smart Home and Smart Building

Smart Home describes the digitisation and cross-linking in private homes, smart building describes the automation and central control of the technology in functional buildings.

Smart home: digitization and cross-linking in private homes.

Smart Home describes the implementation of digitisation and cross-linking in the private homes and includes very different aspects: Smart home represents the automation of classical building functions such as lighting, shading and heating. Secondly, Smart Home is the cross-linking of home appliances in the areas of multimedia, budget and comfort to both, the smartphone as well as linking to each other.

Recent developments suggest that the boundary between the two definitions is being increasingly blurred - the formerly separate operating sectors are increasingly detecting and developing mutual interfaces. The smart home is developing into a market driven by the consumer, where comfort and lifestyle are moving to the foreground.

Smart Building describes the automation and centralised operation of the technical equipment of functional buildings such as office buildings, airports, shopping centres or production halls. Core issues are the security of the building - for example, by fire alarm technology and dynamic planning escape routes - as well as the energy optimisation of building operation, which helps to save operating costs on a large scale.

The electrical industry provides numerous innovative products and solutions for Smart Buildings. These products and solutions have already been well-tested in new buildings and have by now become standard. Especially regarding energy efficiency, great success has been registered: It has been proven that through automation the energy consumption of an office building can be reduced by up to 30%.
