Trust is a Basis for IT Security

Vertrauen in IT Sicherheit

Global supplier and production relationships are a reality even for medium-sized companies. The challenge: every product should do exactly what it is intended for - without backdoors or undeclared functions. For this purpose, cybersecurity has to be consulted internationally by suppliers and be presented against its own customers. To date, international categories, metrics or standards are missing. ZVEI is introducing its positions to Europe as well as to international partnerships (such as the G20 and the B20 process).

Ensuring the integrity of their own supply chain is an entrepreneurial task, which is to be flanked by the policy in the framework of cooperation and contractual public-private partnerships (cPPP) formats. Germany cannot go it alone, but rather European and international approaches are essential. ZVEI considers the European Cyber Security Organization (ECSO) as well as the ISO / IEC standardisation organisations as the relevant platforms to drive the process forward.

Trustworthiness is also an infrastructure issue. The IT infrastructures form the backbone of the "Economy of Things and Services". Majority of them are outside Europe, which poses a challenge for the protection and sovereignty of citizens, businesses and authorities in Europe. ZVEI, together with the Federal Association of German Industry (BDI), is active in the field of open interfaces for ICT products in the sense of "IT Security Replaceability". Users should, by default, be given the option to connect trustworthy (security) components to ICT products in order to increase their own protection level.

In addition, ZVEI is calling for European research and technology support in seven fields, so that society, politics and industry can continue to operate in a sovereign manner in the future:

  1. Application security
  2. Data security
  3. Transport security
  4. Network security
  5. Identity and authorisation management
  6. Device security
  7. System architecture
