Horizontal Product Regulation for Cybersecurity (Whitepaper)

EU-wide uniform product requirements for cybersecurity are of great importance for the German electrical industry. It is clear that a patchwork of national initiatives, laws and labels are unacceptable. At the same time, manufacturers need a level-playing-field in Europe in order to increase cybersecurity in the Internet of Things (IoT) substantially.

EU cybersecurity requirements for the placing networkable products on the single market are a necessary first step. The ZVEI whitepaper underlines the need for political harmonization and action. Annex 1 outlines a proposal on how a specific EU regulation could be established. In doing so, it relies on the established system of the New Legislative Framework (NLF) and transfers it to cybersecurity.

The aim now is to make this proposal into a European initiative with other partners until the establishment of the new EU Commission in the summer of 2019.
