Implementing the digital change: what can policymakers contribute to it?

The demographic development will pose major challenges to the German health care system in the years to come. Aging population and increase in chronical diseases will cause a higher demand for health care services.

The digitisation of health managmenet opens up ways to successfully meet these challenges. It allows the analysis and evaluation of large quantities of personal health data, thus laying the foundations for personalised health care. Therewith, customized diagnosis and therapy options can be selected for each patient, which are adapted individually to his or her living conditions. Health care will not only take place in hospitals and doctors' offices, but also at home and on the road. Thus, health care is to remain high-quality and affordable in a lasting manner.

ZVEI supports the digitisation of health management. It provides an opportunity for great medical advancement, for growth, and employment. In order to implement this successfully, ZVEI is calling for an investment programme by the Federal Government and the Federal States. In addition, uniform framework conditions for the use and analysis of anonymised and pseudonymised care data must be created in order to enable product and process innovations. Finally, the new EU regulations for medical products and data protection should be integrated into the German regulatory framework in order to secure the international competitiveness of German suppliers.
