AI in the Industry

The possibility of operating one's own 5G networks is important for future viability of Germany as a business location. The decision of the Bundesnetzagentur on the allocation of 5G frequencies in Germany, which in addition to the nationwide auction of frequencies also provides for an allocation of local and regional frequencies on application, is therefore the right step.

The good starting position of Germany and Europe in the international competition for AI in the B2B sector must now be strengthened by a joint AI strategy for Europe that focuses on and specifically promotes AI applications in the industrial sector.

Particular attention should be paid to the so-called "low-data" AI based on smart data and the combination of AI with cyber security and edge computing - in contrast to cloud computing, this is decentralized data processing at the edge of a network. The ZVEI also recommends strengthening AI research and development close to market implementation and supporting SMEs in the application of AIs.

At the same time, a social dialogue must be conducted on the opportunities and risks of AIs, in which the electrical industry will participate on the basis of the guidelines for the responsible handling of data.
