The David-Roentgen-Schule Neuwied vocational school is demonstrating hands-on electrical engineering at the ZVEI stand at the Hannover Messe. With its Industrie4.0@school exhibit, it is presenting the top theme of the electrical industry from the vocational students' viewpoint. Industrie4.0@school shows an automated and intelligently networked production process. The end result is a customer-specific product.

Together with the vocational students, the teachers from the vocational school in Neuwied, Germany, have been working on the Industrie4.0@school exhibit since autumn 2014. In the course of this, they are building an automated and intelligently networked production process. Many facets of Industrie-4.0 technologies are vividly represented in the exhibit. By means of an app, a product can be individually designed and the production process observed right up to completion via 3D printing.

The students learn about Industrie 4.0 via seven different learning modules, including app programming, robotics, manufacturing execution system and 3D printing. The teaching is very practical oriented and offers the possibility to specialise in individual modules. The students help work on key parts of the production process: For instance, they ensure that entry of customer data works and the data are correctly transmitted to the robots. This is the first step to the finished, customer-specific product.

The students are still in the early stages of their training to become mechatronics engineers, and much is new to them. "It's really cool: A couple of weeks ago, we still didn't have an exact concept of the project and Industrie 4.0, but we quickly learned a great deal," said one of the students in the group.

The Industrie4.0@school exhibit will be displayed during the Hannover Messe 2015 at the main ZVEI stand, Hall 11, E35. The students and teachers will be on-site during the entire trade fair to demonstrate their work and explain how Industrie4.0@school works.
