Semiconductor Strategy for Germany and Europe - Discussion Paper

ZVEI e.V. has published the paper "Semiconductor Strategy for Germany and Europe", which outlines the first steps towards a comprehensive, long-term, sustainable and effective strategy to strengthen the semiconductor industry in Germany and Europe. The paper highlights the potential of the semiconductor industry to address societal, environmental and economic challenges. The paper is a contribution to the discussion, but not a coordinated position of ZVEI or the industry, and serves as a basis for the development of a common position with interested stakeholder groups. 
The presence of an efficient, innovative, resilient and sustainable semiconductor industry locally is in the strategic interest of Germany and Europe. The semiconductor industry has the important role of supplying the user industries downstream in the supply chain. Its progressive and purposeful expansion contributes indispensably to a high degree of technological sovereignty and stands for the achievement of social, economic and ecological goals. 

It is important to implement Europe's interests in functioning international trade relations with a strong semiconductor industry here in Germany and, at the same time, to realize a high degree of independence for critical components. To achieve this, the existing technological strengths in Germany and Europe must be expanded and existing weaknesses must be specifically addressed.
