Position paper for the WEEE - Stakeholder Consultation 2023

Position paper for the WEEE - Stakeholder Consultation 2023

The European Commission is currently carrying out an evaluation of Directive 2012/19/EU on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment ("WEEE Directive").

As ZVEI, we welcome the consultation. The aim is to adapt the directive to current developments such as the circular economy. At the same time, proven rules should be maintained. To this end, we recommend the following points:

  1. Pursue European harmonisation with a sense of proportion
  2. Revise the way the collection rate is calculated
  3. Improve monitoring of WEEE flows
  4. Strengthen enforcement
  5. Recycle old appliances according to uniform standards
  6.  Take into account the specifics of capital goods
  7. Consider interfaces between product and waste law
  8. Digitise information

We explain these points in our statement.
