Assessment of the Digital Omnibus 

Axel Voss, MEP and patron of the event, began by analysing the European Commission's proposals for the Digital Omnibus together with Benedikt Kuttenkeuler (Siemens) and Nils Scherrer (Vorwerk). The discussion showed in practical terms how complex the EU's digital regulatory framework has become and how important the Commission's simplification approach is. It became evident that the goal must be regulation that is clearer and more efficient, while still adhering to European values.  

Beyond the Omnibus – Visions for smart regulation and digital sovereignty 

The second panel looked beyond the current legislation and addressed the strategic issue of digital sovereignty. Together with Aridge Khayati (FIEEC) and Constantin Greim (Bosch), Diana Vlad-Calcic from the European Commission discussed how regulation could be designed smarter in the future.   

The panellists agreed that the existing digital acquis still needs to be developed considerably further in order to actually enable ‘smart regulation’ in practice.
