Policy paper on standardisation

To achieve the transformation towards a climate-neutral and sustainable society and economy, while maintaining prosperity, the responsible and consistent use of technology and innovations as well as extensive electrification and digitalization towards an All-Electric Society is required.

This task cannot be accomplished without a comprehensive framework, interface definition and the creation of interoperability through standardisation. The standards required are largely attributable to the field of electrical engineering, electronics and information technology.

In addition, standards are an important instrument to ensure product safety and to spread innovations in the market. Only with their help is a technological basis created on which companies can compete for the best product in this new technology. This is especially true in the context of the globalised economy.

We have summarised the most important positions in our policy paper on standardisation. These include:

  • the interplay between standardisation and consortia standardisation,
  • the roles of industry, politics and standardisation organisations,
  • the New Legislative Framework (NLF)
  • the improvement of the process for drawing up harmonised standards
  • international standardisation
  • increasing the attractiveness of getting involved in standardisation
