Consumer Components in Safe Automotive Applications

This position paper summarizes why the trend to increasingly design nonautomotive parts into automotive applications is inevitable and will further expand.

It emphasizes that modern, automotive-ready solutions depend on strengths that have already been defined during the technology, housing and component solutions in order to achieve targets for quality, reliability, service life and safety.

In the ZVEI working group Consumer Components in Safe Automotive Applications (CCSAA), experienced component manufacturers in cooperation with Tier1 published an accompanying fact sheet back in 2015, which has now been updated. This fact sheet identifies possible differences for active and passive components in the areas of semiconductor and housing technology, component development, validation, characterization, qualification, production, testing and support throughout the entire component life cycle. It shows the possible ranges of differences in the individual factors and the potential consequences resulting from them.
