ZVEI Position on the Revision of Regulation (EU) 1025/2012 on European Standardization

Regulation 1025/2012 is a key pillar of the New Legislative Framework (NLF), which has ensured a functioning internal market for decades - through essential safety requirements in legal acts and voluntarily applicable harmonized European standards (hEN). In principle, the regulation is basically fit for purpose, but some clarifications are needed in view of new challenges such as the “James Elliott” judgment and the introduction of the HAS system.

• Maintain the European standardization system with existing organizations
• Legal nature of harmonized standards and the signifiance of the presumption of conformity
• Consistent approach for the use of common specifications, only as a last resort
