Revision of the EU Battery Directive - Position of ZVEI

Batteries play an increasing role in many economic sectors. They provide power to power tools or laptops, store renewable energy and drive more and more e-bikes and electric cars.

Batteries play an increasing role in many economic sectors. They provide power to power tools or laptops, store renewable energy and drive more and more e-bikes and electric cars. When batteries reach the end of their life, they must be collected and recycled. The EU Battery Directive 2013/56/EU regulates the requirements for this. New battery technologies, but also questions of sustainability and circular economy require a revision of this directive. The EU Commission has announced a proposal for autumn 2020. The electrical industry and the ZVEI support this initiative. With this position paper, we are bringing proposals and recommendations for the revision of the Battery Directive into the discussion.
