The Mercosur bloc (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay) is home to over 280 million people. The combined economic output of these five economies, at just under 2.8 trillion euros (2024), is nearly equal to France’s gross domestic product. Taken together, the Mercosur countries would constitute the eighth-largest electro goods market in the world. Given the economic significance of the Mercosur countries, German industry in particular, with its high-quality capital goods, hopes are that a free trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur will open up new sales opportunities.
