Implementing the Data Act – Focusing on Empowerment

For the first time, the EU Data Act establishes uniform rules for access to and use of industrial and user-generated data. The ZVEI supports this step. It is an important milestone for fair, cross-sector data exchange, and a key prerequisite for data-driven innovations and new business models.

However, implementing the Data Act poses significant challenges for companies. Manufacturers of connected products must review and adapt their product portfolios and development processes comprehensively. This requires considerable effort and resources, which can jeopardize innovative strength.

However, the European internal data market must not create a competitive disadvantage. That is why ZVEI is calling for competent authorities to be equipped early on, as well as for a balanced framework of sanctions that does not stifle innovation.
