Under the title ‘Strengthening Europe's Microelectronics Ecosystem – from Chips Act 1.0 to Chips Act 2.0’, representatives from politics and industry discussed the further development of the European semiconductor strategy in Brussels on 28 January. The breakfast was jointly hosted by the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the EU and the ZVEI.
The discussion focused on the question of how Europe can shape the transition from a crisis-driven response to a strategic, long-term industrial policy for semiconductors. It became clear that the further development of the European regulatory framework towards a Chips Act 2.0 must go beyond mere funding instruments and address structural changes.
Speakers included Bart Groothuis and Matthias Ecke, both members of the European Parliament, representatives of our member companies, and Sarah Bäumchen, Managing Director of ZVEI.
The discussion made it clear that Europe must specifically strengthen its position in the global microelectronics value chain in order to secure technological sovereignty and economic competitiveness in the long term.

Three key industrial policy messages emerged during the exchange:
The event highlighted the importance of continuous and structured dialogue between industry and politics. Only through close cooperation the right priorities can be set and an effective ‘Chips Act 2.0’ can be developed that will strengthen Europe's microelectronics ecosystem in the long term.
The ZVEI will continue to actively support this dialogue and advocate for competitive and innovation-friendly framework conditions in Europe.
